Totto Ramen – Midtown NYC – 52nd st location FTW
My favorite ramen place in NYC has to be Totto Ramen. They have a few locations but luckily there is one really close to my office located at 366 W 52nd St.
There is normally a long wait, but not as long as Ippudo, that’s for sure. If you time it right, or go when it’s not that cold out, you can get lucky and be seated right away, like I was recently with my girl Alycia. Either way, it is worth the wait, though, if there is one. I’ve had a mix of lucky days as well as times I’ve gone and waited an hour to get a seat.
I personally am just more comfortable sitting at a table, so that is what I prefer, but sitting at the bar is pretty great too. You can see the huge vats of broth, the noodle boiling stations and the guys preparing everything are right there in front of you. They are super nice and pretty entertaining, too. Love them.
They recently changed their menu, but here is a pic of the most recent ramen selections from a few weeks ago.

Totto Ramen uses my favorite brand of ramen noodles – Sun Noodles, so it’s a given that the noodles are amazing, and they cook them perfectly. Their broths are so rich and delicious, they are what really makes this place so good. They also have some of the best pork buns around – Totto’s pork char siu is on point.

This is an old pic from the first time that I went to Totto with Luis a couple of years ago when they had a special bun on the menu: teriyaki chicken bun. It was SO good. (It is one of my first instagram pics haha. I had ramen on this particular visit, too, but I was so excited I just inhaled it and forgot to take picture!)

Alycia tried out a new item to me on the menu: Mega Paitan. This dish is topped with char siu pork, pulled char siu pork and pork belly chunks. She let me try a little bit of each and the pork belly chunks blew my mind. That ish is AMAZING. Now I know.
Totto Ramen – Midtown 52nd Street NYC – Alycia’s Mega Paitan. $16 worth of some pretty amazing deliciousness. The pork belly chunks on the left are TO DIE FOR. YUM. You can’t see in this pic, but in the back is also the pork char siu.
I got the extra spicy miso paste paitan. This is also topped with the char siu, but it also has ground pork and a hard boiled egg. Kinda wish it was a soft boiled egg, but I can’t always get everything my way! The egg is delicious either way. The broth isn’t too spicy in my opinion, so I just added lot of the hot oil until it was to my liking 🙂
Totto Ramen – Midtown 52nd Street NYC – Extra spicy miso paitan topped with pork char siu and corn added for the win (comes with bean sprouts but I am not a fan of them in soup so I always ask for no bean sprouts!) This is topped with the finest Koji Miso and ground pork. Nomnom
I tip 20% pretty much no matter what the service, just the way I roll… but I found it interesting that they do the 18% math for you and write it on your receipt. Maybe they have had bad experiences with shitty tippers? I guess I don’t blame them then. Always tip, people!!
Totto Ramen – Midtown 52nd Street NYC – Thanks for doing the math for us lol I’ll still give you the 20% instead
Totto Ramen is cash only, so make sure you go prepared and keep it moving, everyone wants to get their ramen on! They do not take reservations and unfortunately there is no take out 😦
For more information check out their website http://tottoramen.com. The hours at the location I go to are 12PM-4:30 PM and then 5:30PM-12AM.
