Last night I had dinner after work with my girl Alycia at Tanner Smiths. Me, not being a huge drinker, would never have thought to even step foot in here. Even though it looks pretty cool from the outside, a big sign that say BAR is not enticing too me. But recently we had a team drink here after work one day, and while we were sitting around I checked out the menu. I was intrigued by a few dishes on the menu, so Alycia and I decided to check it out 🙂
From the outside it just looks like a normal bar, but it is actually pretty huge inside, and very nicely decorated. You can tell that every detail was well thought out. The upstairs has a bar and lots of seating, but there is also a downstairs with a 2nd bar and even more seating. The upstairs and downstairs have their own feel. Tanner Smiths is known as a “house of cocktails”. They have some pretty interesting drinks on the menu, including one named Winona. I’ve heard they are great, just not for me. They do however have a ginger beer on tap that is amazing!!! I also love that they put slices of cucumber in the water ❤

Alycia and I are on the same page that we basically want to try everything on the menu so we got a few things. Please check out the captions in the pictures below for descriptions of what we had.

Front to back –
Everything pretzel sticks with IPA cheese dip and mustard dip
Brussels sprout hash with fried eggs and dill crème fraiche.
Yardbird Scotch eggs with cherry pepper relish and aioli
I have always wanted to try a scotch egg. This was my first time. It was pretty tasty. I am not sure if this is a traditional one or not, but the cherry pepper relish was delicious. The brussels sprout hash was very fresh and tasty. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I would’ve loved to have hot sauce with this. I plan on getting it for lunch soon and putting my own hot sauce on at work. The pretzels were soft and super flavorful. I loved the cheese dip, and the mustard was nice and tangy.

The wings were very good, they just needed to be cleaned a little more carefully… lots of inedible cartilage on the joints that should’ve just been snipped off. But I just worked around that and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Ok, so i know I went there last night too, but I loved everything that I had had and was still curious about other items on the menu, so I was happy to eat lunch there again today with Luis, Marianne, aka Dimuz, Jenny and Kailyn. It is SO close to work … and I just discovered today that they serve brunch for lunch on weekdays! So awesome.
I got the salmon benedict. I was really exited about it, but didn’t end up loving it. I am not showing it because I didn’t get a very good picture of it 😦 The hollandaise just wasn’t rich enough for me, and the smoked salmon got cooked somehow. The fries that it came with were very good, and I liked the dipping sauce they give you with them. I also loved the Texas toast and perfectly poached egg. They also offer a smoked pork benedict, which I’m sure someone will love, especially since it is served on texas toast as well, i just am not into pulled pork. I like salty, spicy pork personally, not sweet. MANY people love sweet pork, I know, just not me 🙂
I suggested Luis get the Smoked Salmon Sammy, and I am glad he did because it was amazing, and i got to take a few bites 🙂 It was a sandwich made out the the delicious pretzels I had the night before. I can not wait to try more of their breakfast for lunch menu items!
