After 6 or so years of living in Secaucus I can not believe that it has only been within the last year that I finally made it over to eat at Bareli’s. I always noticed that there were a lot of nice cars and a packed lot so I had a feeling they must be good. Then one day I noticed a banner they had up announcing they were doing brunch now. So, I checked out their menu and when I saw they had eggs benedict I obviously had to go check it out! Unfortunately, for me at least, it seems that they no longer do brunch. But I am sure glad I got to try it while it lasted.
It was Luis’s mother’s birthday so I decided to gather the whole family up and head over on a Sunday so we could all try it out together. We were seated as a party of, I believe 15, or so. They set us up at a long table in the back of the restaurant in an almost private room just for us. The seats were very comfortable and the staff was excellent. I was blown away that with the amount of orders we had all of the food came out at the same time, was perfect and hot! We were all extremely impressed. Everyone left full and happy.
The eggs benedict was just how I like it, delicious with a nice runny egg. They did their own twist on it, which was very successful. I find that any time I stray from the regular English muffin, hollandaise and ham that it just isn’t quite as good. But that is not the case here. They substituted the English muffin for a round of focaccia, and instead of the tomato that some places add; they topped the ham with seasoned spinach and finished it with tomato hollandaise. It was amazing. My only callout was I wish it came with a little salad on the side, or their tasty spicy breakfast potatoes. I also was very happy with the Bloody Mary that I ordered. It was very well made and came with lots of extra horseradish on the lemon.
My next visit to Bareli’s was a last minute Valentine’s Day visit. We waited until last minute, actually day of, to make Valentine’s Day plans. I think it was possibly that there was a storm on the way that we lucked out and got a 4PM reservation. Granted this was pretty early for dinner, but hey, I wasn’t going to miss out.
To start we got a pitcher of sangria, which being the lightweights that we are, didn’t get very far into. It was very good though. We also ordered some Cape May oysters. The oysters were very clean, and again, lots of horseradish. I was a happy girl.
We ordered our main meal to split from the special Valentine’s Day menu- the mixed grill. I wish I had gotten a better picture of it, but it just smelled so good we had to dig right in. Everything was cooked perfectly. Normally I don’t really love chicken or mashed potatoes, they are not my go to menu items, in the least, but they turned out to be my favorite things on this dish. The sausage was nice and spicy and the broccoli rabe was perfectly seasoned. It was a really great meal all around, and we even managed to eat it all, so it must’ve been perfectly portioned for 2 🙂
I hope to make my way back over to Bareli’s soon to try some more dishes out and take some better pictures to add to my collection. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food, service and ambiance.
