On September 15th we celebrated Luis’s birthday by going to the Spotted Pig again (https://jayefood.com/2015/06/29/the-spotted-pig-nyc/). Of course it was delicious as usual, but I am not a huge fan of their desserts so we decided to just walk around and see what we could find. We passed a window that was filled with colorful, beautiful pastries, but ones I have never seen before, I could not identify them. So we went in.
Merverilleux, pronounced mair-vey-UH, is basically cream sandwiched between 2 small meringue cookies and encased in a sprinkling crushed meringue, or other topping depending on the variety. They have 6 versions, and with the miniatures at about 90 calories each and being gluten free (neither of which am I watching out for… but the thought was nice lol) we got one mini of each.
As you can see from this picture they are very delicate, look how gentle she is being with them.

From left to right in the picture below are the following flavors –
L’Impenssable – The Unbelievable – Coffee. Available in individual size and mini. Meringue, coffee whipped cream coated with crystalized coffee meringue.
Le Merveilleux – The Marvelous – Dark Belgian chocolate. Available in individual and mini size, but also available in cake size! Meringue, chocolate whipped cream coated in shavings of dark chocolate.
L’Incroyable – The Incredible – Speculoos cinnamon cookie & white chocolate. Available in individual and mini size, but also available in cake size. Meringue, speculoos biscuit whipped cream coated with shaved white chocolate. (not a fan of white chocolate, but I am a huge fan of speculoos so I am really torn over this one…)
L’Excentrique – The Eccentric – Amarena Cherry. Only available in mini. Meringue, cherry whipped cream coated with crystalized cherry meringue. (my least favorite, but that is just me)
Le Magnifique – The Magnificent – Only available in mini. Praline & caramelized hazelnuts. Meringue, praline whipped cream coated with almond chips and caramelized hazelnuts.
Le Sans-Culotte – The Revolutionary – Caramel confectionary. Only available in mini. Meringue, caramel whipped cream coated with crystalized meringue.

These are little bites of heaven and I hope you will try them out for yourself so you can even understand what a delicate delicacy they are. My only advise is that you have to eat them right away, otherwise they become just a blob of mush, I know from refrigerating them over night and trying to finish the rest the next day 😦
Their storefront is located at 37 8th avenue (and Jane Street). Their hours are 8am-7:30PM every day. Phone them at 917-475-1992 or for more information check their website at http://www.auxmerveilleux.com, although from my perspective as a web designer lol it is not the easiest website on the eyes or to navigate through. Their pastries well make up for this though! I also had a coffee flavored large meringue. It was so chewy and delicious!!!
